Cross-country skiing

the smooth nature experience

You feel the fresh, clear mountain air and breathe deeply. You can't take your eyes off the snow-covered landscape. It looks like a fairy tale and you feel great. The gentle movement of cross-country skiing in the midst of nature makes this sport particularly popular. Both connoisseurs and ambitious athletes appreciate the benefits of cross-country skiing. A scenic highlight is the skating course in Untertal - accompanied by the meandering Untertalbach stream. Here, magnificent hoarfrost beauties often appear and the silence is exceedingly soothing. A centre of Nordic sports opens up in Ramsau at the foot of the Dachstein. The impressive landscape on the sunny plateau can be experienced on 220 kilometres of cross-country ski trails. Leisure hikers, amateur athletes, even the world's elite are represented here on the perfect classic and skating trails - and everyone agrees: the conditions are perfect. A special highlight are also the numerous huts, cafés and restaurants that leave nothing to be desired.

Off the slopes

Winter sports at the highest level

The snow glistens in the sun, the peace is unique and the mountain world around you could not be more beautiful. Ski touring has become a trend sport in recent years and offers wonderful opportunities to combine the experience of nature with a sporting challenge. The ascent - slow and at one with nature. Every detail of this alpine world can be recognised and marvelled at. The descent - fantastic through deep snow or, in spring, over firn-covered slopes. Of course, this also requires the appropriate skiing skills and knowledge of the challenges - with the accompaniment of a professional ski guide, the mountain world can be explored in complete safety. But even easy tours and ascents along the designated slopes offer great experiences, such as on the Planai, Hochwurzen, Galsterberg with Pleschnitzzinken or Fageralm. Another highlight is the ascent of the Hochwurzen in the evening, including a downhill run on the illuminated piste.

Tobogganing

fun by day and night

Tobogganing is one of the most popular activities in winter, and not only for children, because tobogganing is simply fun. For example, on the great toboggan run of the Hochwurzen. Here, the modern panorama gondola takes you to the summit, and now it's on your marks, get set and go. The 7-kilometre run takes you back to the gondola. In between there are long straights, cool hairpin bends, a tunnel and the opportunity for a detour to a rustic hut. You can have an ambitious race and compete against your friends, or take it easy down to the valley and enjoy the impressive mountain scenery along the way. A particularly popular highlight is night tobogganing on the Hochwurzen. From the summit you take off again on the 7 km long toboggan run, which is illuminated throughout. It's real fun, and you can top it off with a cosy stop at a mountain hut. By the way, you can rent toboggans at the valley station of the gondola.

Special experiences

Winter with a difference

You don't want to do without your bike in winter - and you don't have to. With the fatbike, you can cruise along winter hiking trails in complete relaxation, and thanks to the extra-wide tyres, it's also very easy. A great experience for all two-wheeled fans. You want to experience winter in a romantic way? How about a gorge hike along the illuminated Untertalbach? The starting point is in Schladming or Untertal-Ort. Romantics will also be enchanted by a horse-drawn sleigh ride. Wrapped up warm, it's a wonderful nature experience and, what's more, people also like to stop at cosy huts and pubs to enjoy a warm drink and regional delicacies. Talking about regional: A "primeval stone" among the leisure activities is curling, which is now fully back in fashion. But it's also really fun to compete with others at the ice rink and enjoy a friendly toast with a warm drink. There are great opportunities for this at the Waldhäuslalm in Untertal, for example.

Ice Skating & Stick Shooting

Special winter pleasures

Little and big ice princesses as well as cool skate boys are in their element at the new ice skating rink at the Schladming adventure pool. Here you can do pirouettes, organise races and much more that is really fun with blades under your feet. The huge ice rink runs across the grounds of the outdoor pool and offers plenty of opportunities. Open daily from 10 am to 8 pm, skates can be rented for adults and children.
But the ice also invites curling. This very old sport, in which sociability and togetherness are just as important, is experiencing a real revival and now enjoys great popularity among the young and the young at heart. A great opportunity to "Stöckln" is at the Waldhäuslalm in Untertal. Here there is a top-quality curling rink, curling sticks can be borrowed and "comrades-in-arms" who are happy to explain the rules are sure to be found. After the trial of strength on the ice, a cosy stop for a warming drink is particularly pleasant and ensures a lot of fun.
